Why I Left Ubuntu for Solus
The Ubuntu Fan Boy
Like every first time Linux noob, I started my Linux journey with Ubuntu
9.04. Though It was a bit difficult to use in the beginning as i was a
full time windows guy before I started loving it. I felt proud as I was
using a different OS than others and it was weird and dope at the same
time.
As time went by with the release of newer versions of Ubuntu and the urge to try out the cool new features that were boasted in forums. I use to replace my installed Ubuntu with a newer version and this went on till Ubuntu 16.04LTS(The last version I ever used).
Problems that just wouldn't go
Replacing OS wasn't the main issue for my change of mind. It was BUGS. By time Ubuntu has become more buggy and slow. With the introduction of Unity desktop, It started hanging more than ever before. Sometimes while playing videos my machine would just freeze and i had to forcefully reboot it every time it happens as my machine would just freeze and it wouldn't respond at allSo, I began the quest for replacing Ubuntu and finding a better Linux haven.
Other Distros I tried
In my quest for a better linux OS, I have tried a wide variety of Distros like Fedora, CentOS, ArchLinux ,Debian flavours like Kali, DeepinOS,etc. Every time i tried a new distro i face some or the other issue. Either it was the issue of LTS releases which required upgrades or Buggy system due to complex desktop enivorments with lot of unwanted effects or lack of available softwares.
Finding Solus
Solus OS came to my attention when it went viral that "A new Linux Distro which could boot up in just 3 seconds".
But, still I didn't wanna try it as I thought "What difference is it going to make?". Later I made up my mind "Ok I will try it once before being prejudiced about it" and the highlight about Solus which caught my attention was that "It was built from SCRATCH". So I was happy that i was finally going to try a UNIQUE Linux which wasn't a flavour of any mainstream Linux Distros.
Why i Love it
Currently, I use Solus as my primary os in my laptop and it works just fine. Budgie is a simple yet powerful desktop and the looks are stunning .Solus also has all needed basic libraries and it never hangs.
What I am excited about for the future of SOLUS.
Well honestly I felt bad as SOLUS didn't have enough packages in its repo unlike Debian or fedora. But with the introduction of FLATPAKs i hope that this will change soon in the near future.
